What are aftermarket parts?
Aftermarket parts are made by companies other than your vehicle’s manufacturer. They are designed to fit and function like the original part, and for many common repairs they are a sensible choice — especially on older vehicles, where they may be easier to find than OEM.
Quality and price vary by brand. That is where a conversation helps: tell us whether you care most about cost, longevity, or matching the original part, and we will look for options that fit your vehicle and your priorities.
Good to know
- Using aftermarket parts generally does not void your vehicle warranty. According to the Federal Trade Commission, a manufacturer generally cannot void your warranty simply because you used aftermarket parts; it would need to show the part caused the problem.
- Emissions parts have extra rules. Replacement catalytic converters and other emissions parts must be legal for your vehicle and state. California and several other states have stricter requirements.
- Fitment still matters. Aftermarket parts are cataloged by vehicle, so your VIN, trim, and engine are just as important as with OEM parts.
How to choose between options
-
How long will you keep the vehicle?
Planning to keep it for years? A longer-life part may be worth more up front. Selling soon? A budget option may make sense.
-
Is the part safety-critical?
For brakes, steering, and suspension, prioritize quality and have a qualified technician install the part.

FAQ
Aftermarket parts: common questions
What are aftermarket parts?
Aftermarket parts are made by companies other than the vehicle manufacturer and are designed to fit and function like the original part.
Will aftermarket parts void my vehicle warranty?
According to the Federal Trade Commission, a manufacturer generally cannot void your warranty or deny coverage simply because you used aftermarket or recycled parts. It would need to show that the part caused the problem being claimed. Check your warranty terms for details.
Are aftermarket parts lower quality?
Not necessarily. Quality varies by brand and part, and some aftermarket parts meet or exceed original specifications while others are built to a budget. Tell us your priorities and we will help you weigh the options available.
Can aftermarket emissions parts be used in California?
Replacement emissions parts used in California must meet California Air Resources Board (CARB) requirements, and several other states follow similar rules. Tell us your state when you call.
What warranty comes with aftermarket parts?
Warranty coverage varies by part, manufacturer, and condition — typically around 3–6 months for parts we source. Ask us which terms apply to your specific part before you buy.
